How do I add a Collective Investment Trust (CIT) in my 401(k)?

Collective Investment Trusts (CITs) are institutional vehicles common in 401(k) plans. They look like mutual funds but aren't publicly traded, so the search may not find them directly.

To add a CIT:

  1. Open Net Worth - "Add an asset" - Securities - "Enter or copy/paste securities". You can also upload a recent statement (PDF, screenshot, Excel, or CSV).
  2. Search for the CIT by name.
  3. If it isn't found, click "Create custom security" and enter the Name, Ticker, Amount (Market Value), and Asset class (e.g. Large Cap Equity, Fixed Income).

If the CIT tracks a public benchmark (e.g. an S&P 500 index CIT), select "Use proxy security instead" when adding the custom security and pick the benchmark ETF as the proxy. PortfolioPilot will use the proxy's daily prices and forecasts, so your custom security tracks the index automatically.
