How do I add accounts from my employer-sponsored 401(k) when the fund options are limited?
You have two ways to make recommendations practical for an employer 401(k) with a limited fund menu.
Option 1 - Enter the full fund menu as holdings.
- Open Net Worth - "Add an asset" - Securities - "Enter or copy/paste securities". You can also upload a recent statement (PDF, screenshot, Excel, or CSV).
- Enter all the funds available in your plan, with the current value of each.
- Under Tax Treatment, choose Tax-Advantaged for Traditional 401(k) or Tax-Free for Roth 401(k).
Option 2 - Tell PortfolioPilot your fund menu using Additional context.
- Open Preferences - Investment profile - Any additional context?
- Enter something like: "My 401(k) is limited to these funds: VINIX, VBTLX, FXAIX. Only suggest swaps within this menu."
- Save. The Recommendation Engine and the AI Assistant will respect that constraint on the next run.
If your plan's funds all come from one provider, you can also flip the "Restrict to specific fund families?" toggle in Preferences - Recommendations preferences to keep suggestions inside that family.
