How do I add life insurance cash value to PortfolioPilot?

Cash value life insurance (whole life, universal life, variable universal life) can be added as a manually tracked asset:

  1. Open Net Worth - "Add an asset" - Other assets - Other.
  2. Name it (e.g. "Whole life - [insurer name]") and enter the current cash value.
  3. Update the cash value periodically as it grows. Your insurer's annual statement or online portal will have the current figure.

If you also want to model the death benefit as a life insurance income for a surviving spouse, go to Retirement Planner - People tab - Life insurance and enter the benefit amount and the insured person. PortfolioPilot will factor that into the surviving-spouse income scenario.

Note: PortfolioPilot tracks the cash value (the asset), not the death benefit (which isn't a net worth item while you're alive). Add only the cash value to Net Worth.
