Can I set a target allocation by asset class or investment style (e.g. large cap value, mid cap growth, bonds) in PortfolioPilot?

Yes - PortfolioPilot gives you several ways to define and work toward a target allocation by asset class or style.

Option 1 - Set risk preferences per Asset Group:

Each Asset Group has its own risk tolerance and investment strategy settings. Adjusting the risk preference is a proxy for asset allocation - a more conservative setting shifts the model toward bonds and stability, while an aggressive shifts toward equities and growth. Note that the traditional fixed equity/bond percentage allocation is less relevant today; PortfolioPilot’s risk-based approach is more adaptive to current market conditions. You can also use the Additional context field in your Asset Group preferences to describe your allocation goals in plain language (e.g. “60% equities, 30% bonds, 10% alternatives” or “target large-cap value tilt”) - the recommendation engine will factor this in.

  • Go to Track (dropdown) → Asset Groups → click on an Asset Group
  • Edit the Risk preference and Recommendation preferences (asset classes, eccentricity, fund families)
  • The recommendation engine will factor these into all suggestions for that group

Option 2 - Use the Additional context input:

The Portfolio Optimizer generates an improved allocation that maximizes your Portfolio Score given your risk preferences and any restrictions you've set.

  • Go to Settings → Preferences→ find the "Any additional context" input at the top of the page
  • Type your target allocation or goals (e.g. "I want roughly 60% equities and 20% bonds" or "reduce my tech exposure")
  • The engine will factor this into its recommendations for that session

Option 3 - Build a target manually in a Draft Portfolio:

  • Go to Track (dropdown) → Net Worth→ Drafts → "+ Add Draft Portfolio"
  • Manually add securities that represent your target style mix
  • Use Improve → Analysis & comparison to view your asset class breakdown side-by-side with your current portfolio or a market index - useful for tracking how close you are to your target

For the most granular view of how your allocation compares to a target, use Improve → Analysis & comparison to look at your asset class breakdown side-by-side with an index or a Draft Portfolio you’re working toward.
