How do I add a deferred compensation plan (NQDC) to PortfolioPilot?
Non-qualified deferred compensation (NQDC) plans can be tracked as both a current asset and a future income stream.
As a current asset (if vested or accessible):
- Open Net Worth - "Add a net worth asset" - Other assets - Custom.
- Enter the name (e.g. "NQDC Plan") and current account balance.
- Set Asset class to Fixed income if the plan is fixed-rate, or leave blank for a deferred portfolio-style plan.
As future income (for deferred distributions):
- Open Retirement planner - Money in & out tab.
- Click + Add payment - Custom payment.
- Enter the expected annual distribution amount and the years when distributions will occur.
NQDC plans are unsecured obligations of your employer and have specific distribution timing rules. For tax planning around NQDC distributions, consult a CPA.
