How do I add a UTMA or custodial account for my child?

A UTMA (Uniform Transfers to Minors Act) or UGMA custodial account can be added like any brokerage account in Net Worth. Three ways:

  • Connect it. Open Net Worth"Add an asset"Securities and search for your brokerage by name in the institution search box. PortfolioPilot routes you to the right connection partner.
  • Upload a statement. From the same "Add an asset" flow, upload a recent statement (PDF, screenshot, Excel, or CSV) and PortfolioPilot extracts the holdings.
  • Add manually. Choose "Enter or copy/paste securities" and enter the holdings by ticker.

Important — Tax Treatment: When setting up the account, set Tax Treatment to Taxable — UTMA/UGMA accounts are taxable (kiddie tax rules apply). Do not set it to Tax-advantaged or Tax-free.

To keep this account separate from your main portfolio analysis, place it in its own Asset Group with its own risk preferences. To switch between viewing the UTMA group and the rest of your portfolio, use the Portfolio Selector in the left sidebar (or at the top of the page on mobile). Top recommendations generated for the UTMA group respect its own risk preference and tax status, separate from your personal strategy.
