Some recommendations feel too risky for me. How do I adjust this?

PortfolioPilot's recommendations are generated based on your risk profile and investment preferences. There are several ways to bring them in line with your actual comfort level:

1. Adjust your risk preference

  • Go to Settings → Preferences → Investment profile → edit "What is your risk preference?"
  • The recommendation engine will immediately recalculate based on your updated settings

2. Check your Risk Match score

A good way to see how well your portfolio aligns with your risk tolerance is to look at the Risk Match score in Improve → Portfolio Score. Getting your Risk Match to 10/10 means your portfolio's actual risk level matches what you've set - a key goal for feeling comfortable with recommendations.

3. Set up Asset Groups with different risk levels

If different parts of your portfolio have different goals, create Asset Groups with their own risk preferences. For example, your 401(k) can be set to Conservative while your brokerage account stays Moderately aggressive.

4. Customize your Recommendation preferences

In Settings → Preferences → Recommendations preferences, you can refine what the system suggests:

  • Remove specific asset classes (e.g. Crypto, Commodities) from recommendations
  • Adjust the fund eccentricity level (Low, Medium, High)
  • Restrict to specific fund families or set a maximum expense ratio

5. Ignore specific recommendations

On the Improve → Recommendations page, click "Ignore" on any suggestion that doesn't fit your strategy - it won't appear again. You can review ignored recommendations at any time in your recommendation preferences.
