What information does PortfolioPilot need to give me a useful Roth conversion analysis?

For the most accurate Roth conversion analysis, make sure the following is set up in PortfolioPilot:

  • Traditional IRA and 401k balances are added to your Net Worth and correctly marked as Tax-Advantaged
  • Roth IRA is added and marked as Tax-Free
  • Expected retirement age and monthly retirement budget are set in Plan → Retirement Planning
  • Social Security start age and expected annual benefit are entered in Plan → Retirement Planning → "People" tab
  • Tax filing status and country/state of residence are set in Plan → Retirement Planning → "Taxes & withdrawals" tab → "Tax profile" section

The more complete your financial picture in PortfolioPilot, the more accurate the scenario projections will be. Run the Roth conversion scenario via Plan → Retirement Planning → "Taxes & withdrawals" tab → "+ Add Roth conversion".
