Why does the security I hold show up prefixed with “Private.”?
In addition to securities that are freely available to everyone to buy and sell (“public” securities), there are a large number of other securities that one might have in their brokerage account, such as real estate co-investments, private mutual fund pools, private equity shares, etc. We still want to show you these are securities that you own that contribute to your net worth, however, there is often not quality data on them for us to display and use for forecasting purposes. We denote these securities with a “Private” prefix to signify that they are different from the other securities in this way and track them properly. Please reach out to us with any questions about this.
