Discover how to effectively use the Asset Grouping functionality in PortfolioPilot with this easy-to-follow guide. Asset grouping allows you to organize groups of investments you want to manage with different investment strategies into distinct categories, each with its own risk profile.
Note, we believe that the best practice for managing your portfolio is altogether as one “Net Worth Portfolio”, allowing you to optimize globally and think about risk holistically. That being said, we know that each person’s situation is unique and have added this Asset Grouping functionality by popular demand.
Turn on Asset Groups
By default, your view is Net Worth Portfolio and the Asset Groups feature is turned off. Under Settings -> Preferences you can turn on the Asset Group functionality by changing your “portfolio management approach”. To start with, you will have two groups created - one group will all of your portfolios, and another group that is empty for you to add to.
Create an Asset Group
Customize the properties of your securities to better reflect your perspective, fix a specific issue, or fill in missing data.
- In the Net Worth page, navigate to the Groups tab
- Press “Create new group”
- Assign group name and risk preference
- Drag and drop relevant portfolios into the group
Switch Views
Toggle between your Net Worth Portfolio, Asset Groups, individual accounts, and Draft Portfolio views and analyses at the top of the left side menu.
Other Notes
Each
new portfolio added will be assigned to the first asset group- Any changes you make in the Groups tab don’t impact your connected account (i.e. you are free to delete a group without issue)
- Non-security net worth items cannot be added to asset groups (yet)
By using the Asset Grouping feature, you can create a more nuanced and personalized approach to managing your investments. This allows you to align each segment of your portfolio with specific financial objectives, ensuring a tailored and effective investment strategy.
