How do I add mutual funds from smaller institutions to PortfolioPilot?

Most mutual funds with a ticker or CUSIP can be added directly. Here are your options:

Option 1 - Search by ticker or name (direct add):

  • Click "Add an asset" (top right) → Securities → "Enter or copy/paste securities"
  • Search by the fund's ticker or full name
  • If found, enter the value or quantity and save

Option 2 - Add as a custom security (if not in our database):

  • In the same "Enter or copy/paste securities" flow, type the fund name and select "Custom security" from the dropdown
  • Set the Asset Class (e.g. Fixed Income, Equities) and enter the current value and expected annual return manually

Option 3 - Use a proxy security (for analysis and recommendations):

If the fund isn't recognized but has a similar equivalent (e.g. a proprietary bond fund similar to AGG):

  • Go to Improve → Details page → find the unrecognized fund → click the edit (pencil) icon
  • Check "Use proxy security instead" → search for a similar fund → Save
  • PortfolioPilot will use the proxy's data for analysis, scoring, and recommendations
