Why does a security I hold show up as “Unknown”?

We track over 50K securities, almost all the ones listed on major US and Canadian exchanges. Some of these are “foreign” companies (most commonly, if the security is an ADR or CDR which stand for American or Canadian Depository Receipts) or funds that hold non-US/Canada exposures (such as your average international ETF or Mutual Fund), though we don’t cover most internationally-listed companies and funds for the time being. Unfortunately, we also do not have high quality data on Canadian Mutual Funds specifically, and most individually held fixed-income products (CDs and time deposits, municipal bonds, individual Treasuries, individual corporate bonds, etc).

In an effort to make the system more flexible, we've added three features to help solve these problems. Here is a tutorial that goes through our customization features, including proxy securities (map unknown securities to known ones), custom securities (enter the details yourself), and security modification (change or fix assumptions of a security in your portfolio).

We are always expanding our coverage universe based on user demand and so if any of these limitations pose an issue for you please reach out to us at [email protected].
