The ten areas

What does downside protection measure?

Two groups: how concentrated the portfolio is, and which economic forces could hit it at once.

Concentration

Asset class, holdings, sector and regional concentration. Too much in one place means one bad event does a lot of damage.

Economic drivers

Economic growth, inflation, raw materials and interest rates. Holdings tied to the same driver tend to fall together.

Credit and liquidity

How much depends on borrowers paying back, and on being able to sell quickly at a fair price.

Not the same as less risk

Improving it does not mean taking less risk. The Portfolio Optimizer reweights what you hold at your risk level.

Next step

Act on your investing recommendations

To fix the areas marked Critical, Personalized Recommendations suggest specific trades and show how each one would change your Portfolio Score. Part of Gold.
